The Cup Struggle
Modus clinched a dramatic late win against Stolze (formally Rockware) in the first cup group game last Monday (6th aug). Lying in 6th place in the league Modus only have 5 teams above them in the whole competition, however, in a bizarre cup group both of Modus' opposition are from the 5 teams above them.
First up was Stolze and they lived up to their reputation as a counter attacking unit. They sat deep all game and possession was dominated by The Modus but with very little output to speak of. The first half saw guilt edge chances missed by Modus and the fear was that these misses would come back to haunt them.
Approaching the end of the game Modus began to push, and not long after Cookson had smashed the bar with a shot so powerful it would still be flying had the frame not stopped it, he popped up to score the later winner. According to the ref, an apparent 1 minute 40 seconds was left after the goal but in reality, he played at least 3 or 4 minutes to try and let Stolze back in. They couldnt find a way through though, thanks in part to a Peden hack, and Modus were left sitting top of the group.
Next up a tricky game against high flying Paris Mouse. Modus will have to be better all over the picth if they are to be victorious, especially in defence. Paris Mouse being a team of 4 attackers and a keeper wont let Modus get away with another flat footed defensive performance. They are pretty much a one man team but that man is capable of doing a job so The Modus will have to be at their best if they are to retain their record of making at least the quarter finals in every years cup competition
